A new Tomb Raider documentary has put Legacy of Atlantis back in front of fans with fresh development detail, and the timing matters because PlayStation already pegged the remake for Feb. 12, 2027 under the line “Adventure Beyond Legend.” For longtime players, the real hook is not the trailer polish but the reminder that this project is built around Lara Croft’s 1996 debut, not a brand-new spin-off.

The documentary lands after a steady run of official buildup that has framed the remake as more than a coat of paint. Xbox Wire’s June 11 preview brought together Jeff Adams, Crystal Dynamics’ experience director, Raul Siqueira, the studio’s game director, and Arek Tomaszewski, Flying Wild Hog’s art director, to talk through how the team is reimagining the original game. That matters for fans who know exactly how brittle some of the old-school Tomb Raider movement could feel, because this version is clearly being positioned as a modern rebuild rather than a simple remaster.

IGN added more texture on June 7 with a behind-the-scenes “Meet Lara Croft” clip featuring lead actor Alix Wilton Regan. That piece, along with IGN’s “Traversal & Movement Reimagined” overview, points to the biggest change longtime players will notice first: Lara’s movement and traversal are being rebuilt for a new audience without losing the identity that made the original a landmark action-adventure game.

The release-date trailer on PlayStation’s official channel on June 2 made the schedule explicit, and IGN later tied the game’s move into 2027 to a State of Play gameplay showing that also confirmed the February 12, 2027 date. Between that gameplay reveal, the cast spotlight, and the documentary’s new development context, the remake is being sold as a return to the roots of the series rather than a nostalgia exercise.
