Palworld could be Fortnite's next big crossover after Pokémon rumors fade

Tom Phillips pushed Palworld to the front of Fortnite’s crossover rumor mill by saying Pokémon looks off the table while Pocketpair’s survival hit looks like the more plausible fit. The angle lands because Palworld has spent its life in Pokémon’s shadow, and any move that puts it inside Fortnite’s crossover machine turns that comparison into fuel instead of baggage.

The latest speculation picked up after John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, had already signaled interest in a Fortnite-style collaboration back in January. That set the stage for the July 22 chatter cycle, when Pocketpair’s comments and a Fortnite player survey reignited the idea that Palworld could be next in Epic’s line of pop-culture tie-ins. Epic Games regularly uses those surveys to test interest in games, characters and other entertainment properties, which is why a Palworld mention carried more weight than a random fan wishlist.

Games.gg added more kindling by saying Epic had included Palworld in Fortnite’s in-game survey, then pointed to a cryptic post from Pocketpair’s publishing head about Pal skins. That is exactly the sort of breadcrumb that sends Fortnite fans and Palworld players down the same rabbit hole, because it suggests the crossover would be built around cosmetics first. In Fortnite terms, that means the useful stuff is obvious: skins, themed gear and maybe a few creature-flavored nods that fit the game’s rotating storefront rhythm.

The timing also matters. Dexerto reported that Palworld reached nearly 962,000 concurrent players on Steam during its second week after a resurgence tied to its 1.0 launch. That kind of spike is the difference between a novelty and a brand big enough for crossover chatter to stick. IGN’s Palworld page lists the game’s initial release date as Jul. 10, 2026, which helps explain why it is still being framed as a fresh part of the conversation rather than a stale one.

That is why a Palworld crossover feels more believable than a Pokémon one right now. Fortnite thrives on brands that can bend into its meme-friendly, skin-heavy economy, and Palworld has already proven it can live inside that conversation without disappearing into it. The joke writes itself, but the business logic is even clearer: Palworld may be the creature-catching world flexible enough to actually show up.
