Games Workshop Teaser Sparks Fan Speculation Over Possible Faction Revival
A patch reading "Gardes Ferrus" on a GW staffer's biker jacket has Astra Militarum fans buzzing: could the Mordian Iron Guard be making their first plastic debut in over 30 years?

A single patch on a biker jacket has set the Warhammer 40,000 community alight. Games Workshop's AdeptiCon teaser clip showed a close-up of one of Adam Troke's jacket patches reading "Gardes Ferrus." Translated from Warhammer 40,000's fake Latin, that means Iron Guard. The implication landed like a Earthshaker round: the Mordian Iron Guard, one of the most beloved and long-neglected regiments in the Astra Militarum, may finally be on their way back.
GamingTrend's Christian Hoffer was among the first to dig into the teaser, arguing on March 20 that the imagery strongly hinted at a revival of a long-lost Astra Militarum regiment. Both the Armageddon Steel Legion and the Mordian Iron Guard were raised as candidates for a potential revamp. But the "Gardes Ferrus" patch pointed squarely at one answer.
The Mordian Iron Guard is one of the more storied and popular Astra Militarum regiments, but one that hasn't had any official models since the 1990s, with those original sculpts cast in metal and now only available to well-funded Oldhammer collectors willing to brave the eBay wilds. For an army with that much lore behind it, the model drought has been remarkable. Highly disciplined and iron-willed, the Iron Guard present perfectly formed firing lines, unleashing precisely timed volleys of las-fire, and will not break from the line under almost any conditions. Their combat doctrines and aesthetic are very much a homage to Napoleonic-era warfare: specialising in disciplined infantry gunlines, wearing immaculately kept, brightly coloured uniforms designed for pride and esprit de corps rather than camouflage.
The Mordians also have a direct connection to the setting that makes the timing feel deliberate. Six regiments of the Mordian Iron Guard fought in the defence of Hive Death Mire during the Third War for Armageddon. With an Armageddon two-player box set widely expected to be the final major 10th Edition release before Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition drops in Summer 2026, slotting the Mordians into that narrative framework would make considerable sense. The same teaser clip also showed the badge of the Blood Angels Space Marine chapter, suggesting something new for them as well.

This would make the Mordians the third well-known Imperial Guard regiment to receive their own dedicated model range in recent years, following the revamped Cadian Shock Troops and the Death Korps of Krieg. The models most likely to surface first are the regiment's iconic, bright blue-clad, tassel-shouldered infantry squads.
Games Workshop's AdeptiCon Preview Show took place on March 25, 2026, meaning the hobby community won't have to wait long to find out whether three decades of waiting for new Mordian models is finally about to end. Whether it's a full regiment launch or a starter set for the new edition, Guardsmen players who've been eyeing those old metal sculpts for years have genuine reason to hold off on the eBay search.
