Auroch Digital shared fresh key art for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 that positions new playable Nyra Veyrath alongside returning hero Malum Caedo amid Chaos forces, with the image first shown on Xbox Wire and sparking memes and excitement in replies. The artwork, credited to Johan Grenier, is already circulating as downloadable 4K wallpaper in 3840x2160 and other resolutions.

News Xbox highlighted the artist’s return, writing, “This was created by the supremely talented Johan Grenier, who also created the key art for the original Boltgun! In the new key art for Boltgun 2, Nyra naturally takes centre stage alongside Malum on a battlefield of chaos factions.” Grenier’s composition underlines the game’s dual-protagonist focus by placing both characters at the visual centre of a chaotic, multi-faction fight.

The new character is named explicitly as Nyra Veyrath, identified in source material as a Sister of Battle Celestian and described on Warhammer-community as “a battle-hardened Sister of Battle Celestian who loves nothing more than bathing heretics in righteous flames.” The Instagram caption excerpt credits Nyra’s voice actor by the handle @charalanahzard, while Warhammer-community names the actor as Alanah Pearce; both attributions appear in the press material and should be reconciled with the developer or talent for confirmation. Malum Caedo is listed across sources as the returning Ultramarine Sternguard Veteran from the original Boltgun.

Gameplay details tied to the reveal emphasize contrasting playstyles. Gam3s Gg’s FAQ notes players can choose between Malum Caedo and Nyra Veyrath in a “branching single-player campaign,” and that Nyra wields “flame-based weapons including bolters, flamers, and melta weapons, as well as a Power Sword for melee combat,” while Malum “retains his Chainsword and firearms from the original game.” News Xbox supplies developer commentary on Nyra’s design: “We wanted her first ranged weapon in the game to be a one-handed Bolt Pistol partly because it allowed us to show the Power Sword on screen at the same time. That way we’re immediately encouraging the player to get in the faces of your enemies, performing vicious combo slashes with the Power Sword.”

News Xbox also outlined a specific melee mechanic: “For enemies just out of reach, holding the melee attack button performs a forward thrust with the sword, causing increased damage and often showering the screen in gore. Reinforcing the themes of mobility and extra utility, the thrust attack can also be used as a means of moving around. For this and Nyra’s other abilities, we’re really looking forward to players’ creativity in how they use and combine them.”

Sources sketch expanded environments and foes: Gam3s Gg describes new locations including “massive hive cities and dense mangrove swamps,” with enemy types evolving to include Bloodletters and Juggernauts. Lead designer Matt Bone is quoted explaining that “players had repeatedly requested an additional protagonist, and the team aimed to deliver a contrasting playstyle that complements Malum’s gameplay,” linking the art reveal to design goals of variety and replayability.

Timing remains unclear: Gam3s Gg’s FAQ states the game is “scheduled for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S,” while News Xbox urges readers to “add Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 to your wishlist to be notified when it releases later this year.” Those two timing statements conflict; the developer or publisher should clarify the official release window and platform list. For now, the Grenier key art and the dual-protagonist tease mark Boltgun 2’s next chapter, and News Xbox promises “even more exciting reveals to share over the next few months.”
