Space Marine 2's roster is growing: developers previewed a free Techmarine playable class that arrives with Patch 12 and brings a new style of crowd-control and area-defence play to co-op and PvP. The Techmarine is the seventh playable class and combines close-quarters threat management with a signature deployable turret mounted to the power pack.

The class centers on two clear pillars. In melee, the Techmarine wields an Omnissian Axe that keeps the Adeptus Astartes brawling close to the enemy. At range, the Servo-Gun - a turret bolted to the Techmarine's back - automates gun strikes so you can focus on positioning and aim elsewhere. That automation changes the flow of engagements by letting one player dedicate attention to priorities such as revives, objectives, or angle control while the turret lays down consistent suppression.

Practical utility goes beyond raw damage: Techmarines can service and boost certain sentry turrets, creating hybrid defensive builds that mix portable firepower with fixed emplacements. The class ships with its own perk tree and a unique Combat Skill, so loadout decisions will affect playstyle and team roles. Expect the Techmarine to excel at zoning, objective denial, and supporting static defenses in Operations and Stratagems matches.

Patch 12 was teased to include more than the new class. Developers also previewed a new mission for Operations and Stratagems, hero weapon variants for customization, and helmetless head options for character personalization. Crucially for the player base, the Techmarine will be free for all players and will be available in co-op and PvP modes, but not in the narrative campaign. That means you can experiment with turret synergies in multiplayer without unlocking costs, while campaign purists will not find the class in story missions.

For squad composition and meta, the Techmarine's arrival opens immediate options. The turret's automated fire lets a teammate run aggressive flanks while the Techmarine holds a choke, or the class can anchor a lane and buff allied sentries. The standalone perk tree and Combat Skill will let you build toward durability, turret efficiency, or utility depending on whether you prefer brawl or area control.

Patch 12 feels like a content boost aimed at players who enjoy co-op tactics and PvP stratagems. Prepare to test turret placements, experiment with sentry-boost combos, and reconfigure loadouts once the update lands - the Techmarine is shaping up to be a practical toolbox for teams that want to lock down objectives and keep enemies at bay.
