Creative Assembly today unveiled Total War Warhammer 40,000 at The Game Awards, announcing a move that brings the Total War formula into the grimdark future of Warhammer 40,000. The studio frames the title as the franchise’s first voyage beyond historical and fantasy settings, marrying Total War’s turn based grand strategy with cinematic real time battles set across a galaxy of contested worlds.

The reveal trailer was presented by actor David Harbour, who will also appear as an in game character. Publisher SEGA and Creative Assembly confirmed the game will ship on PC and for the first time in the franchise on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, expanding the audience beyond historical and fantasy fans who have traditionally been PC centric.

Four factions are confirmed at launch, Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks and Aeldari, each designed with distinct campaign and battle playstyles. At campaign scale the game will include galactic conquest mechanics such as capturing planets, upgrading fleets, and managing a war economy. Features called out for strategic players include orbital bombardment and the ability to unleash apocalyptic weapons. Battles are promised to include destructible terrain across diverse biomes, adding tactical depth to the series’ large scale engagements.

Creative Assembly emphasised long term expansion plans, deep customisation of faction heraldry and identity, and a marketing campaign that will reveal more details over time. The studio’s blog links to the reveal trailer and store wishlists for players who want to follow developments and register interest ahead of further announcements.

This shift matters to players and local communities because console availability opens space for new competitive and casual scenes at local stores and events, while the faction roster gives painters and collectors a fresh lineup to plan for. Verify system requirements and platform specific features when Creative Assembly releases them. Add the title to your wishlist on your preferred storefront to receive updates, and start plotting which factions you will field when more campaign and battle systems are detailed in the coming months.
