Highland Woodturners (Scottish Charity SC053651) hold AGM and quiz 5 Feb 2026
Highland Woodturners held their AGM at 6.45pm on 5 Feb, proposing constitutional amendments and finishing the evening - by popular demand - with a quiz; minutes will be published shortly.

Highland Woodturners Club (Scottish Charity SC053651) convened its AGM at 6.45pm on 5 February, with the meeting scheduled to be followed "Followed by popular demand, by a quiz." The board used the AGM - the club's second since becoming a SCIO - to flag proposed amendments designed to reflect the club's membership categories, and members were told that "Agenda and proposed amendments to the Constitution have been emailed to members."
Procedural items were handled in the room. The club reminded members that "If anyone wishes to join the board they can be proposed and seconded at the meeting." Regular logistics remain in place for weekday evenings: doors open at 6pm and meetings start at 6.45pm. An earlier scheduled meeting on 8 January was cancelled "due to road/ car park conditions and the weather forecast."
The club plans to publish formal records from the recent meeting. In a summing-up posted after the AGM the secretary wrote, "The minutes from the AGM will be published shortly and I have absolutely no idea what happened at the quiz , as I was writing minutes !" That line captures both the businesslike focus of the evening and the convivial tone members value.
Highland Woodturners resumed club activities in late January with a practical demonstration that set the tone for the new year. "In our first meeting since Christmas ( the last meeting cancelled due to the weather) David Ross took us through ways of hollowing different types of vessel." David Ross "showed us a variety of tools he has used over the years and included a long reach tool he had fabricated himself." He also noted his preference: "He particularly likes the Hope Easy hollowing system though that obviously involves a significant investment." The demonstrator provided diagrams and examples, saying, "David had prepared for us a a number of diagrams showing why particular directions of hollowing left better finishes than others, and also showed us various carbide tips which worked well for him."

The club closed out 2025 with an end-of-year meeting on 11 December that included awards for the 2025 shield competitions and the Xmas competition. "It was also the evening of the Xmas Raffle with over 100 prizes awarded." Novice shield winners were announced as 1st Graeme Gunn, 2nd Bob Bull and 3rd Neil Farnham.
For members and newcomers the immediate takeaways are clear: proposed constitutional changes are being progressed and will be explained in the forthcoming minutes; those interested in governance can still seek nomination in the usual meeting format; and the practical programme continues to emphasise hands-on demonstrations and peer feedback. Expect the published AGM minutes next and plan to bring work to the bench for critique at future meetings.
