Rowley Brownies Earn Wellness Badge Through Yoga, Healthy Snack Tasting
Brownie Troop 63135 in Rowley tried yoga and exotic fruits to earn their 'My Great Day' badge — beets, however, did not survive the vote.

Brownie Troop 63135 of Rowley, Massachusetts rolled out the yoga mats last Sunday and came away with more than just a new badge. The girls earned the "My Great Day" badge through a hands-on evening of movement and mindful eating, organized by troop leaders Stephanie Vaccaro and Whitney DeSantis.
The badge curriculum asks Brownies to build four habits: establishing morning routines, setting daily goals, keeping up consistent movement, and developing healthier eating habits. Vaccaro and DeSantis turned those requirements into an actual experience rather than a worksheet, pairing a group yoga session with a healthy-food tasting that sent the girls from the mat straight to the snack table.
The yoga session drew participants at every level. Some girls had prior experience on the mat; for others it was their first time. That mix, first-timers finding their footing beside more practiced peers, captured something yoga instructors often point to as the practice's most underrated quality: it meets you wherever you are.
The snack tasting proved equally educational, if more divisive. Tropical fruits like mango and dragonfruit earned approving reviews, but beets were another matter entirely. Brownie Avery Juliano summed up the group consensus with admirable restraint: "I really can't even describe it." When asked what it takes to have a great day, Brownie Rosie Gall kept it straightforward: "Eat healthy!"
Parents at the event noted changes that stretched beyond the badge requirements. Stephanie Lineman said she appreciated that her daughter had learned about "being more open to meeting new people and being welcoming." Amanda Johnas praised the troop for teaching "kindness, being a good friend, and teamwork," framing the evening less as a health class and more as a community-building exercise.
That combination, breath work alongside beet rejection, is increasingly how youth organizations are bringing wellness into early programming. For Troop 63135, the "My Great Day" badge was the goal; the yoga mats and the fruit platter were the method.
