Heritage Auctions leads spring sale with 20.03-carat Cartier yellow diamond ring

Heritage Auctions is putting the conversation squarely on rarity, not spectacle, with a Cartier ring centered by a 20.03-carat fancy intense yellow diamond. The piece carries a $500,000 reserve and a $600,000 to $800,000 estimate, a range that reflects just how much weight collectors place on size, color strength and signature design when a stone reaches this level.

The ring’s value begins with the diamond itself. Heritage describes the center stone as a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut diamond, graded VVS2 by the Gemological Institute of America, with report number 5231576111 dated May 1, 2025. It measures 16.57 by 14.51 by 9.17 millimeters, a footprint that gives the stone both presence and proportion. In fancy-color diamonds, the jump from simply yellow to fancy intense yellow matters enormously: saturation is the difference between a pretty stone and a major one.

Cartier’s name adds another layer of desirability, but it does not stand alone. The ring is mounted in platinum and 18k yellow gold, a combination that lets the color of the diamond read cleanly while grounding it in a setting suited to daily wear. Heritage says the ring is marked Cartier, sized 6 1/2, weighs 9.70 grams and comes with a signed Cartier ring box, details that reinforce both authenticity and collectability. The ring will headline Heritage Auctions’ Spring Fine Jewelry Signature Auction on May 4 in Dallas, a sale Heritage has described as one of its most impressive jewelry offerings to date. The lineup also includes Kashmir sapphires, large fancy-color diamonds and designer jewels by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and other makers, but the yellow diamond is the lot most likely to draw immediate attention. A comparable 14.14-carat fancy intense yellow diamond ring sold for $337,500 at Heritage’s May 5, 2025 spring sale, a useful marker for how quickly prices rise once carat weight and color quality move into rarified territory.
