Three consultation salons, custom-built furnishings and wallpaper shaped by Rudyard Kipling illustrations and Viviana Langhoff’s Caribbean roots give Adornment & Theory’s West Town flagship the feel of a private salon rather than a standard jewelry store. At 1,200 square feet, the new space at 1433 W. Chicago Ave. is built to slow shoppers down and let the work speak: bridal rings, one-of-a-kind commissions and designer jewelry are now framed by oversized inspiration boards and an atmosphere Langhoff describes as warm, sensual and grounded.

The store opened softly in April and will mark its grand opening with CS Magazine on May 28. Langhoff purchased the building housing the flagship, a move that gives Adornment & Theory a permanent address in Chicago and signals a sharper long-term ambition. She has said the new home was designed to support more custom design, more bridal work and more intimate consultations, the kind of private service that demands both space and intimacy. The flagship also reflects a hospitality-minded approach Langhoff traces to Charles Eames, whose idea of the designer as a thoughtful host runs through the layout and flow of the boutique.

Inside, the design language is deliberately layered. Langhoff draws from Puerto Rico, Middle Eastern design and mid-century modern clarity, folding those references into a jewel box that feels collected rather than merchandised. That sensibility matters because it positions jewelry not simply as inventory, but as object and memory, something to be chosen in conversation with space, light and craftsmanship. Alongside Langhoff’s own work, the cases feature pieces by Sofia Zakia, Céline Daoust, Alex Monroe, 12th House and ParkFord, a roster that reinforces the store’s role as a curator of design, not just a seller of product.

The new flagship builds on a steady expansion story. Adornment + Theory was founded in 2017, and in May 2021 the company nearly doubled its Logan Square showroom to about 1,100 square feet after demand for events, custom work and bridal outgrew the original footprint. Earlier coverage also placed the business within a wider cultural conversation, describing it as community-centered and powered by women and people of color, while Langhoff has hosted fine art shows and discussions about racism and the lack of diversity in the jewelry industry. She has said her creative vocabulary also reaches to Moorish architecture, Morocco, Art Deco and Indian metalwork.

That history gives the West Town flagship a deeper charge than a simple retail opening. It reads as an argument for jewelry as collectible design and personal narrative, with a permanent home built to hold both.
