North Carolina is not a one-and-done for Buc-ee's," Stan Beard, the company's director of real estate development, told attendees at the Triad Business Journal's Alamance Growth Summit on March 12, signaling that the travel-center giant is targeting additional locations in the state beyond the one already confirmed for Mebane.

Beard acknowledged the chain would expand selectively, not aggressively. "There won't be stores on every corner, but there will be more to come," he said.

His remarks underscore how quickly Buc-ee's has moved beyond its Texas origins. A decade ago, Beard said, the chain had no stores outside the Lone Star State. It now operates 36 locations in Texas and, according to the company's website, 18 outside it, with the Mebane store still to come.

The Mebane location, already confirmed, would be the first Buc-ee's in North Carolina. The chain is known for its enormous travel centers, which typically run well over 50,000 square feet and employ large local workforces. No site address, opening timeline, or permitting details for the Mebane project were disclosed in Beard's remarks at the summit.

Beard did not name any specific second or third North Carolina sites, but his choice to address the Alamance Growth Summit, a regional economic development forum, suggested the Triad corridor remains on the company's radar as it maps out its next round of expansion.
