Baker County Sheriff's Office Hires First-Time Deputy Jammerman for Jail

Hunter Jammerman traded his diesel mechanic tools for a corrections badge when he joined the Baker County Sheriff's Office Corrections Division, marking his first step into law enforcement.

According to BCSO personnel, Jammerman is officially employed as a corrections deputy and will work in the county jail. The hire represents a complete career shift for Jammerman, who spent his professional life working on diesel engines before turning to corrections work.

Raised in Idaho, Jammerman has lived in Oregon for nearly a year, making his entry into the BCSO a relatively quick transition after relocating to the region.

Because this is his first law enforcement position, officials say Jammerman will enroll in and attend the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training's Basic Corrections Academy at a future date. The academy, operated by the state of Oregon, provides foundational training for corrections officers working in facilities across the state. Completing that program will give Jammerman the formal certification required for his role in the Baker County jail.

The Corrections Division handles the day-to-day operation of the county's detention facility, and adding trained staff supports the division's capacity to manage that responsibility. Jammerman joins a corrections workforce that, like many rural Oregon counties, faces the ongoing challenge of recruiting qualified personnel willing to work in a demanding public safety environment.

No timeline has been announced for when Jammerman will begin the DPSST academy coursework.
