ODOT to stripe I-84 in Baker County, lane closures begin May 4
Lane and shoulder closures will start near Exit 330 west of Huntington as ODOT begins repainting I-84 across Baker County on May 4. Crews will work west toward Pendleton through mid-June.

ODOT crews will begin striping Interstate 84 near Exit 330 west of Huntington, with lane and shoulder closures set to start May 4 and move west through Baker County before reaching Union and Umatilla counties.
The work is part of the I-84: Eastern Oregon Durable Striping Construction Phase, a $1.8 million project intended to replace worn pavement markings across four stretches of the interstate. In Baker County, the project covers mileposts 331 through 346, from Exit 330 at Cement Plant Road and Plano Road to Exit 345 at Lime, U.S. 30 Business and Huntington. ODOT said crews plan to start near milepost 345 and work west, shifting between eastbound and westbound lanes as sections are completed.
The agency said the striping is needed because harsh eastern Oregon winters, especially snowplows and deicer chemicals, wear down road markings and can create hazards in bad weather. ODOT said the durable striping is meant to improve visibility and driver safety in high-traffic areas that need frequent maintenance, including the I-84 corridor between La Grande and Pendleton.
Delays are most likely as the work advances through Baker County and into the rest of the corridor. Travelers moving between Huntington and the county line should expect changing lane and shoulder restrictions, and traffic on the broader east-west route through Union County and Umatilla County may also slow while crews work through the other project zones. The work also has clear implications beyond local commuting, because I-84 serves regional travelers and commercial traffic moving across eastern Oregon.

ODOT said the project also includes mileposts 249 through 259 and 270 through 274 in Union County, as well as mileposts 218 through 238 in Umatilla County, from about 2 miles east of Pendleton to Exit 238 at Meacham. The agency said the project was anticipated to begin the week of May 4 and finish by mid-June.
No traffic impacts were reported when the project page was updated April 27, but ODOT’s work schedule points to new restrictions beginning May 4. Hicks Striping & Curbing, LLC of Salem is the contractor on the job.
