A car owner on the 3500 block of White Chapel Road in Ashburton confronted two people who tried to take the vehicle at about 7:14 a.m., prompting a brief scuffle before Baltimore Police officers placed both suspects into custody, police said. The owner suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

Baltimore Police described the response this way: "Officers were called around 7:14 a.m. to the 3500 block of White Chapel Road… the owner of the car confronted the assailants, a small scuffle ensued, and officers arrived and arrested the assailants. The car's owner was treated at the scene for a minor injury." The two people taken into custody were identified by police only by age, a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, and no formal booking or charge details were released by authorities immediately after the arrests.

The White Chapel Road arrest came amid a string of carjacking and vehicle-theft reports across Baltimore that same Monday. Police later received a report that a Lexus RX was stolen around 10:00 a.m. on Winner Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, followed roughly 30 minutes later by an attempted carjacking reported on Nurton Avenue (spelled Nurtan in some reports), and a later report of a stolen Toyota sedan on Cedardale Road. Police said a stolen Lexus was later spotted at locations on Nurton/Nurtan Avenue and Cedardale Road; investigators have not confirmed whether the arrests on White Chapel Road are connected to those incidents.

An Ashburton resident who witnessed parts of the day's scenes, identified as Palmer, described a separate moment when a tenant came outside after an alarm and found her car missing. Palmer said, "When the alarm went off, one of the tenants in the apartment building came outside thinking it was her car. When she came outside, it wasn't her car, so the guys stuck a gun in her face and they took her car instead." That account refers to a different reported carjacking in the neighborhood and has not been corroborated by police with details tying it to the White Chapel Road arrests.

A social media witness posted a fragmented account from near the White Chapel Road scene, saying in part, "... attempted carjacking. They tried to ram the thieves' vehicle to stop ... owner secured the vehicle. Witnesses said he began panicking." That Instagram-style snippet remains an unverified eyewitness report and has not been confirmed by police.

The incident on White Chapel Road occurred Monday, Feb. 16, 2026. Baltimore Police have not released whether any weapons were recovered, whether the 17-year-old will be processed in juvenile court, or what specific charges, if any, have been filed against the two suspects as of this report. Investigators continue to review footage and statements to determine whether the arrests relate to the other vehicle-theft reports from that same morning.
