Denmark Technical College Names Taylor Helton Associate VP of Student Affairs
Taylor Helton returns to Denmark Technical College as associate VP of student affairs after a national role at the UNCF Institute of Capacity Building.

Taylor Helton, Ed.D., has returned to Denmark Technical College as associate vice president for student affairs, campus experience, stepping into a senior leadership post at the Denmark institution where she previously built student engagement programs from the director level.
In the role, Helton oversees housing and residence life, student involvement, weekend programs, and student affairs special projects. Her appointment follows a period working at the national level: she most recently served as program manager for transformation support at the United Negro College Fund Institute of Capacity Building, supporting retention, student engagement, and institutional collaboration across multiple institutions.
Before joining UNCF, Helton had served as Denmark Tech's director of student engagement and success, leading programs designed to strengthen student involvement, support services, and campus life.
"I am honored to return to Denmark Technical College and continue serving students in this new role," Helton said. "I look forward to working with our campus community to create meaningful experiences that support student engagement, growth and success."
Eric Brown, Ph.D., president and CEO of Denmark Technical College, pointed to both her track record and her commitment as reasons for confidence in the appointment. "Dr. Helton brings both experience and a deep commitment to supporting students as they pursue their goals," Brown said. "Her leadership will help strengthen campus life and ensure our students have the support, engagement and opportunities they need to succeed."
Helton holds a Doctor of Education in higher education leadership and policy from Clark Atlanta University, a Master of Science in psychology from Grand Canyon University, and a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Wiley College. She also completed a certification in leadership practices supporting ethical workplace strategies and organizational effectiveness from the University of South Florida.
The appointment drew congratulations across higher education networks. Ciera Oliver-Ratcliff of UNCF, Lamar J. White, Ph.D., of Midlands Technical College, and Amy Roper, a Denmark Tech staff member, were among those welcoming Helton back on LinkedIn. Evelyn Workman of Bamberg Job Corps summed up a widely shared sentiment with two words: "Welcome back."
Helton joins a Student Affairs leadership team that includes Executive Vice President Jeremicus Porter and Senior Associate Vice President Leslie Holman-Brooks. She can be reached at 803.793.1600 or heltont@denmarktech.edu.
