Volunteers Remove 13 Bags of Litter Along Heritage Highway in Denmark
Nine volunteers filled 13 bags of litter in 90 minutes along Heritage Highway on March 7, with Denmark's mayor and a county councilman among those picking up trash.

Nine volunteers filled 13 bags of litter in just one hour and thirty minutes along Heritage Highway in Denmark on Saturday, March 7, as Keep Bamberg County Beautiful teamed with City of Refuge Ministries for a focused roadway cleanup outside the ministry's 22165 Heritage Highway location.
The turnout drew more than church members and community supporters. Bamberg County Councilman Dr. Jonathan Goodman, City of Denmark Mayor Harold Johnson, and City of Denmark Councilwoman Charnda Sanders Williams all grabbed bags and worked the stretch of roadway surrounding City of Refuge Ministries alongside KBCB Executive Director Alisha Moore. Williams serves double duty as a KBCB board member, and the ministry is led by Pastor Hezekiah Wroten, who hosted the group.
Moore framed the effort as proof of what organized community action can accomplish in a short window. "Every bag of litter removed makes a difference," she said. "This cleanup demonstrates how much can be accomplished when volunteers step up to protect and beautify their community. We are grateful to City of Refuge Ministries for hosting us and to all of our volunteers who helped make this event a success."

The March 7 cleanup is not the county's last for the month. Keep Bamberg County Beautiful plans to host another community litter pickup later in March in recognition of South Carolina Sweep, the annual statewide initiative organized by PalmettoPride that encourages communities across South Carolina to remove litter and promote environmental responsibility together.
