A 4-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition after a near-drowning in a Plantation pool, and a 2-year-old boy drowned in Plantation on July 9, 2026, in what was described as the fourth child drowning death in South Florida in three weeks. In another recent case, a 4-year-old girl was found dead in a Plantation lake on July 5, 2026.

Plantation’s concerns are not limited to one type of water hazard. A 1-year-old girl died in 2025 after she was found unresponsive in a pool at a Plantation home, adding another loss tied to backyard and neighborhood water access. Taken together, the incidents have put the city under an unwanted spotlight, with pools, lakes and private homes all appearing in the recent toll.
