Copperas Cove Teen Earns Mower of the Month Honor After 42 Free Lawns
Copperas Cove teen Madyson has mowed 42 free lawns for elderly and disabled neighbors, earning a national Mower of the Month honor delivered as a surprise at her soccer game.

Copperas Cove's Madyson has mowed 42 lawns across the city without collecting a dollar, and a national nonprofit made sure the community knew it, surprising her at a soccer game with a monthly award that goes to only one young volunteer in the country.
Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service named her its March Mower of the Month, presenting the recognition on the sideline as she arrived for a match. The award spotlights young volunteers making tangible progress through the organization's 50 Yard Challenge, which asks youth participants to mow 50 lawns at no charge for elderly residents, disabled veterans, and single-parent households. Those who reach all 50 receive a free lawn mower from the organization to keep working.
Madyson is eight lawns from that milestone.
Rodney Smith Jr. founded Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama, growing it into a program with participants across the United States and in several other countries. The model bypasses fundraising drives entirely: young volunteers show up, start the engine, and cut the grass. That hands-on approach has drawn significant national media attention for what it produces in neighborhoods rather than in donation totals.
In Copperas Cove, a city of roughly 35,000 residents situated directly alongside Fort Cavazos, one of the largest U.S. Army installations in the world, the population Madyson is serving runs deep. Coryell County's military ties mean many households include veterans managing service-connected disabilities and seniors who have spent decades as part of the post community.
Families who need lawn care help and anyone looking to nominate a young volunteer can connect with the organization through Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service. With eight lawns remaining, Madyson is on pace to earn her own free mower before summer arrives in Central Texas.
