Troopers responded to a report of a major crash around 8:07 p.m. on FM 116 near mile marker 376. According to DPS Sergeant Bryan Washko, Barrientos was driving a 2012 Kia Soul northbound on FM 116 when her vehicle struck the left rear quarter of a trailer being pulled onto the roadway by a 2020 Kenworth truck tractor. The Kenworth was entering FM 116 from a loading yard at the time of the collision. Barrientos was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. A complete crash report will be available through Texas.gov.
FM 116 runs through a stretch of south-central Coryell County that sees a mix of passenger traffic and commercial vehicle movement, with loading operations adjacent to the roadway posing intersection hazards, particularly after dark. The precise sequence of events leading to the crash, including speed, lighting conditions, and the truck's exact position on the roadway, has not been released by DPS.
The identity of the Kenworth's driver has not been disclosed, and no charges or citations have been reported in connection with the crash.
