Jonesboro, Oglesby athletes shine at District 26-1A meet, advance to area
Jonesboro’s girls and Oglesby’s boys powered Coryell County-area track athletes into the postseason, with district golds piling up and Region IV in Seguin now in reach.

Coryell County-area track athletes turned District 26-1A into a launch point, with Jonesboro and Oglesby sending a deep group on to area after strong showings in Abbott on April 9. Jonesboro’s Lady Eagles led the girls’ side with eight individual gold medals and a sweep of all three relays, while Oglesby’s Tigers answered on the boys’ side with seven individual golds and two relay wins.
Ryli Bryson gave Jonesboro its clearest star turn, winning two individual events and helping the Lady Eagles show strength from sprinting through the relays. That kind of balance mattered in a district meet where every point counted and depth often separated the front-runners from the rest of the field. For Jonesboro, the relay sweep showed the program was not depending on one or two standouts, but on a group that could compete across multiple races.
Oglesby matched that breadth on the boys’ side. Evan Williamson won two events for the Tigers, anchoring a day that produced seven individual district titles and two relay victories. The results put Oglesby among the strongest boys programs in the meet and gave the Tigers multiple paths forward as the postseason tightened.
The next stop was the Area 25/26-1A Meet in Abbott, where the top four finishers in each event advanced to the Region IV Meet. That regional round was scheduled for May 1-2 at Matador Stadium at Seguin High School in Seguin, with an April 25 entry deadline listed in UIL Region IV materials. Russell Kowalik was listed as the Region IV AAA and Region IV A track and field director.
For small schools in Coryell County and nearby communities, the district results mattered because they showed how much postseason leverage a few well-rounded programs can create. Jonesboro’s eight gold medals and relay sweep, along with Oglesby’s seven individual wins and relay success, gave both schools a real shot at a deeper run and kept local eyes on Seguin as the state-qualifying path moved forward.
