Red Cross assists Vineland family displaced by Greenwillows Drive incident

Red Cross New Jersey volunteers responded to an incident on Greenwillows Dr. in Vineland and helped a family of five with temporary lodging, food and clothing after the household was displaced. The aid is meant to bridge the first stretch after a fire or other home emergency, when a family needs a place to sleep, something to eat and basic essentials before longer-term arrangements take shape.

The Red Cross New Jersey Region says its disaster relief and recovery services also include tools to help people find shelter and contact loved ones after a disaster. In New Jersey, disaster mental health volunteers are available to meet the emotional and psychosocial needs of disaster survivors and Red Cross disaster workers, adding support when a sudden displacement has already shaken a household’s routines and family connections.

The Vineland response came as the organization pointed to other recent New Jersey fire responses that quickly spread beyond a single address. A Red Cross New Jersey post said volunteers helped 7 people in 3 families on N East Blvd. in Vineland, while another said 50 people in 18 New Jersey families were assisted after home fires. The organization also said more than 70 people were displaced after a fire in Branchburg, showing how one incident can force multiple families into emergency housing.

In Cumberland County, that makes the Red Cross role immediate and practical: get people out of danger, cover the first nights, and keep displaced residents connected to the help they need while they begin to recover.
