Jasper Public Library Unveils Full April 2026 Program Schedule
Jasper Public Library's free April schedule features a 20-author fair, LEGO robotics, and kids' crafts that can replace hundreds of dollars in paid enrichment costs.

When Dubois County families pay for after-school enrichment, STEM workshops, or children's art classes, the Jasper Public Library is offering the same experiences at no cost this April, with more than a dozen scheduled programs running through the month at its location inside the Thyen-Clarke Cultural Center, 100 3rd Ave., Suite B.
For parents of young children, Family Storytime runs every Tuesday at 10 a.m., pairing books with crafts, activities, and songs built around a weekly theme. Stay and Play for ages 2 to 5 returns Monday, April 13, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., giving toddlers unstructured time in the library's programming room while caregivers connect with one another.
LEGO Robotics on Saturday, April 4, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. puts library-owned robotics sets in the hands of children 8 and older, walking them through structured builds at no charge. The library recommends that a parent or caregiver sit alongside kids to work through the projects. Craft Lab on Wednesday, April 1, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., covers color-focused techniques including flower painting and tie-dye bandannas, and that same evening at 6 p.m., children from preschool through 4th grade can make marbled paper Easter egg crafts.
The month's largest event is the Author Fair on Saturday, April 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., bringing more than 20 authors from across the tristate area to meet readers, discuss their work, and sell books. A Children's Hour at 11 a.m. adds read-alouds and interactive activities, and a panel on the writing and publishing process starts at noon. Admission is free.
Adults and teens have dedicated programming throughout April as well. Bingo and Coffee on Friday, April 10, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., requires no registration and offers prizes to winners. Curiosity Café for Teens meets every Thursday at 4 p.m. for snacks, crafts, and games. Photographs for Genealogy on Tuesday, April 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., teaches patrons how to use family images to trace and preserve history. The JPL Evening Book Club closes out the month on Tuesday, April 28, at 6 p.m., with copies of the selection available at the information desk for new members.
That programming depth is not accidental. Last summer, the Jasper branch alone logged 50,136 checkouts and renewals, and the library ran 113 programs across children's, teen, and adult categories during that period.
Library director Golden, speaking to the Greater Jasper School Board earlier this year, described what the Thyen-Clarke location has come to mean to residents since opening in 2020. "My favorite thing to hear people say is 'My family is in town and I brought them here,'" she told the board.
Programs with limited enrollment require advance registration through the event calendar at jdcpl.us or by phone at 812-482-2712. The library will be closed Friday, April 3, for Good Friday and Sunday, April 5, for Easter.
