Josh Livingston spent two decades patrolling Orange County's roads for the Indiana State Police. Now he'll be teaching other troopers how to shoot.

ISP Superintendent Anthony Scott announced March 23 that Livingston had been promoted from Master Trooper to Sergeant and assigned as a Firearms Training Sergeant in the ISP Training Division, a role that moves him from road work into the agency's statewide instruction apparatus.

Livingston is an Orange County native who graduated from Paoli Jr./Sr. High School in 2000 before earning a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Indiana State University. He graduated from the 64th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 2004 and launched his career as a road trooper at the Lafayette post, where he served through 2006. He then transferred to the Jasper District and patrolled Orange County for the next two decades, accumulating more than twenty-one years of ISP service in total.

That tenure included far more than road patrol. Livingston built a résumé that spans nearly every corner of ISP's training and tactical operations: Background Investigator, Tactical Intervention Platoon Team Member, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Academy Scenario Trainer, Taser Instructor, Below 100 Instructor, and Department Armorer. The breadth of that list made his transition to the Training Division a logical fit.

His promotion came through a competitive process that included a comprehensive written exam, an oral interview, and an extensive evaluation of his overall job performance.

Livingston lives in Orange County with his wife and two daughters.

The Jasper District saw a second promotion announced around the same time: Detective Josh Greer, a separate ISP officer, was elevated to Sergeant and named Jasper District Investigative Squad Leader, according to reporting by 18 WJTS. Greer, a Boonville native with more than nineteen years of service, had worked as a detective at the Jasper Post since 2017 focusing on homicide, cybercrime, and crimes against children.
