Goochland County Fire-Rescue earns national recognition for quality care

Goochland County Fire-Rescue has earned the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold achievement award, a national recognition tied to care for severe heart attacks and strokes. Goochland County described the department as nationally recognized for its commitment to quality care.

The award sits inside the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS program, which focuses on prehospital stroke, heart attack and cardiac arrest patients. The program measures whether EMS agencies are following evidence-based guidelines and quality-improvement standards, and the recognition levels are tied to at least one calendar quarter of compliance at 75% or better on AHAEMS Measures 1.1-7.1.

For Goochland residents, that matters in the minutes after a 911 call. The county’s government post said the Gold award recognizes rapid and research-based care for people experiencing the most severe form of heart attacks and strokes, the kind of response where dispatch, first assessment, treatment and transport decisions can shape what happens next.

Goochland’s terrain makes that especially relevant. Fire-rescue calls can stretch across a largely rural county, where consistency in emergency medical care is as important as speed.
