Lordsburg seeks applicants for Ena Mitchell Senior Center jobs
Lordsburg is taking applications for Ena Mitchell Senior Center jobs as it works to keep meals, rides and other senior services moving at 532 E. DeMoss St.

Lordsburg is seeking applicants for jobs at the Ena Mitchell Senior Center, a move that could shape how meals, transportation and other daily services continue for older residents who rely on the site at 532 E. DeMoss St. The city posted the hiring notice on April 8 and said applications will be accepted until the openings are filled, signaling an effort to move quickly on staffing.
Application forms and job descriptions are available at City Hall, 409 W. Wabash St., during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The city also said applicants may download the materials, complete them and return them to City Hall. In its notice and application form, Lordsburg said it is an equal opportunity employer and listed protected categories that include race, color, creed, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, marital or veteran status and sexual orientation.
The hiring push comes after a period of transition for one of the city’s most visible day-to-day service sites for older adults. Public meeting records show the Hidalgo County Commission and the Lordsburg City Council held a joint special meeting on July 28, 2025, to discuss the city assuming senior-center operations. Later city agenda items referenced approval of Ena Mitchell Senior Center positions, part of the shift that followed the expiration of Hidalgo Medical Services’ contract in August 2025.
The center is more than a social stop. Share New Mexico lists it as providing congregate meals, home-delivered meals, transportation and housing-assistance support for seniors and other older adults age 60 and up. That makes staffing a practical issue, not just an administrative one: when a senior center lacks enough workers, the effects can reach the meal table, the ride schedule and the support older residents count on to stay connected and in place.
Hidalgo Medical Services’ senior-service listings say HMS operates five senior center locations across Hidalgo and Grant counties, underscoring that the Lordsburg site is part of a broader regional network. But in Lordsburg, the local job posting shows the city now carries the responsibility for keeping the Ena Mitchell Senior Center open, staffed and responsive, with the day-to-day burden falling on the people hired to keep those services running.
