Racine resident seeks hit-and-run driver after Taylor Avenue crash
A camera caught a hit-and-run on Taylor Avenue, where another violent crash near 16th Street killed 17-year-old Tyreana Scales last year.

A Racine resident is searching for the driver who struck a parked car on Taylor Avenue and fled, a collision captured on camera in a corridor many people already consider one of the city’s most troublesome stretches for traffic. The video has put fresh attention on a street that has seen repeated serious crashes, especially near 16th Street.
The parked-car hit-and-run happened on Taylor Avenue in Racine, and the driver has not been identified. The fact that the crash was recorded gives investigators a clear lead, but it also turns an ordinary property-damage case into another reminder of how often drivers on this stretch leave neighbors dealing with the aftermath.
Taylor Avenue’s reputation as a problem area is tied to more than one recent crash. On March 9, 2025, a high-speed fiery crash near 16th Street and Taylor Avenue injured several teenagers. Seventeen-year-old Tyreana Scales later died from her injuries. A Racine man, Salvador Coronado, was charged in connection with that crash with first-degree reckless homicide and four counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
The pattern has left Taylor Avenue under a harsher spotlight than a typical neighborhood street. What happened on the parked-car case may not have caused the same injuries as the 2025 wreck, but it landed in the same corridor and reinforced the sense that this part of Racine keeps drawing dangerous driving.
State traffic tools underscore how closely roads are watched across Wisconsin. Wisconsin 511 is a free 24/7 traveler information system with access to more than 500 traffic cameras statewide. Even with that network, the driver in the Taylor Avenue hit-and-run remains unidentified, and the resident who was hit is still looking for answers on a street that has already carried too many warnings.
