One Airlifted After Reckless GMC Pickup Crashes Into Hyundai in Eureka
A Hyundai driver was airlifted with major injuries after a GMC pickup reportedly crossed into oncoming traffic and rolled onto its side on the 4400 block of Broadway in Eureka.

A Hyundai driver sustained major injuries and was airlifted out of the area after a GMC pickup, reported by multiple callers to be driving recklessly, crossed into northbound traffic and collided with the Hyundai on the 4400 block of Broadway in Eureka, police said. The GMC came to rest on its side and a third vehicle was side-swiped, sustaining minor damage.
Eureka Police Department patrol officers responded after multiple reports; the collision occurred at approximately 12:41 p.m. on February 17, 2026, according to the department. Humboldt Bay Fire personnel extricated both drivers at the scene. The GMC driver was transported to a local hospital after officers said the driver "appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency."
The Hyundai driver required extrication and was taken to a local hospital, then later airlifted for further medical treatment. EPD’s media release listed the vehicles as: a GMC truck with major damage that rolled onto its side, a Hyundai with major damage, and a third vehicle with minor side-swipe damage. Humboldt Bay Fire’s on-scene rescue and extrication efforts were key to removing both drivers from their vehicles.
Investigators continue to examine the sequence leading up to the collision. "At this time, based on information gathered thus far in the investigation, intoxication or intentional reckless driving do not appear to have been factors in the collision," Eureka police said in their statement. The case remains under active investigation while officers piece together witness accounts and scene evidence.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may assist investigators is urged to contact FTO Sheldon at (707) 441-4060, ext. 3339. The department has not released names, ages, or hospital destinations for either driver.
This incident follows another serious traffic event on Broadway earlier in February; on February 13 an 83-year-old male pedestrian was struck and killed at the intersection of W. Wabash Avenue and Broadway, a separate investigation that drew EPD’s Criminal Investigations Unit and Major Injury Team. While the Feb. 13 and Feb. 17 collisions are distinct incidents, both occurred along the Broadway corridor, underscoring ongoing safety and enforcement attention by local public safety agencies.
