Sequoia Park Zoo's fifteenth Conservation Lecture Series wraps up tonight with a free talk by Lathrop Leonard, lead Forester for California State Parks' North Coast Redwoods District, who will present "Redwoods Rising: A Collaboration to Restore Degraded Landscapes in Redwood National and State Parks" at 7:00 p.m.

Leonard has spent more than two decades managing the land at the center of tonight's discussion. Since 2004, he has run the Forestry and Fire Management programs for the North Coast Redwoods District, a jurisdiction that covers all State Parks involved in the Redwoods Rising initiative as well as parks across Humboldt, Del Norte, and Northern Mendocino counties. Before his tenure in Northern California, Leonard worked in habitat conservation and restoration in Western Washington, Colorado, and Kenya.

The talk, hosted by the Sequoia Park Zoo Advisory Group's Conservation Council, focuses on cooperative efforts to restore degraded forest landscapes within Redwood National and State Parks. Redwoods Rising is a multi-partner restoration program, and Leonard's position as the district's lead forester places him at the operational center of that work.
