WICD Native Plant Sale: Pre‑Orders Due March 13, Pickup March 15
An Instagram post lists online orders open through March 13 with in-person pickup March 15 at the Plant Materials Center in Bow; WICD’s website lists a Nov. 1–Jan. 31 preorder window and late‑February pickup.

An Instagram post circulating on local feeds says, “Our plant sale is now open! Shop online now through March 13th, and pick up your orders in-person on March 15th at the Plant Materials Center in Bow, WA,” but Whidbey Island Conservation District materials describe a different annual schedule. WICD’s published guidance states, “Native trees and shrubs are sold annually online through pre-orders beginning November 1st through January 31st. Pre-ordered bare-root and potted plants are then available for pick up in late February.”
Those conflicting timelines also appear in a regional compilation: an NNRG county table lists Island County under “Whidbey Conservation District” with “No deadline” for preorders and a March 8 pickup date. Because WICD’s own page gives the district’s standard window and a late‑February pickup, confirm this year’s calendar before making plans by calling WICD at (888) 678-4922 or emailing wicd@whidbeycd.org.
The sale funds and materials feed restoration and shoreline work across the island. Whidbey Island Conservation District frames the program as crucial to “local habitat restoration, shoreline stabilization, pollinator gardens and affordable access to native trees and shrubs,” and its mission is clear: “The mission of Whidbey Island Conservation District (WICD) is to assist in the management of natural resources on and around Whidbey Island for present and future generations, inspiring voluntary conservation practices through education, outreach, and through technical and financial costshare assistance.”
Volunteers make the distribution possible. WICD notes, “Each year, we seek over 50 volunteers to assist with our native plant sale pre-packing days in late February.” A related volunteer posting that references WICD emphasizes that teams “assemble to bundle plants, dip and spray roots, assemble orders and pass them out.” The volunteer announcement also lists possible shifts of March 9–14 and an incentive that “volunteers that register before Feb 20 will receive a FREE Native Plant Sale t-shirt,” but WICD staff say reporters should verify current-year incentives and exact shift dates by contacting Kelsi at kelsi@whidbeycd.org.
Practical pickup details vary by partner. WICD’s language specifies bare-root and potted formats for customers; Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative instructs customers to “plan on picking up your plants in person through a walk up, pick up process,” and provides contact info by mail at PO Box 472, Coupeville, WA 98239 and by email at info@whidbeyislandgrown.com. Neighboring districts provide their own calendars: Clark Conservation District opened ordering for its 2026 sale Nov. 25, 2025 and set a pick-up date of Saturday, March 14, 2026 at CASEE High School, 11104 NE 149th St., Brush Prairie, WA, underscoring regional variation in dates and locations.
If you want to join the plant sale email list or confirm the current year’s preorder deadline, species list, prices, or pick-up location on Whidbey Island, WICD directs people to “call the office at (888) 678-4922 or email: wicd@whidbeycd.org.” For volunteer sign-up specifics, contact Kelsi at kelsi@whidbeycd.org. Before driving to Bow or planning a pickup on the March dates shown in third-party posts, verify the district’s confirmed calendar to ensure your order and volunteer shift match this year’s schedule.
