Multi Vehicle Crash Kills One, Injures Another in Alice

A multi vehicle collision on US 281 in Alice on Wednesday afternoon resulted in one fatality and one person flown to a Corpus Christi hospital with serious injuries. Authorities said the crash occurred about 12:45 p.m. on the northbound side of US 281 after a southbound Toyota Solara struck the rear of a Kenworth truck that was towing a semi trailer.

According to the initial police account, the 51 year old driver of the Toyota lost control after striking the truck, crossed a grassy median and entered the northbound lanes where the Toyota struck a GMC Sierra head on. The semi trailer left the roadway and rolled. The Toyota caught fire, trapping its driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Sierra was airlifted to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi for treatment. The Kenworth driver and a passenger were uninjured. Police are investigating the sequence of events and causes of the crash.
