Local Gift Shop Celebrates 11 Years, Boosts Holiday Shopping
Boomerang Consignment and Gaia Gifts marked its 11th year serving Los Alamos on Small Business Saturday, November 29, 2025, with treats, giveaways and a wide selection of gifts to kick off the holiday season. The milestone highlights the store's longevity and role in keeping retail spending local as shoppers seek unique souvenirs and seasonal presents.

Boomerang Consignment and Gaia Gifts celebrated its 11th anniversary in Los Alamos on Small Business Saturday, drawing customers with treats, giveaways and curated gift ideas aimed at jumpstarting holiday purchases. The event underscored the store's role as a neighborhood retail anchor, offering items that range from kitschy souvenirs to practical apparel for residents and visitors alike.
The business itself has deeper roots in the region. Boomerang has operated for more than 23 years overall, and for the last 11 it has served the Los Alamos community. The shop weathered the economic disruption of the COVID period and used that experience to refine its inventory and community connections. Owner Anna Dillane reflected on that resilience, saying, “Someone asked me recently, How do you survive here? The answer is like a math formula. You take a healthy dose of hard work, pepper it with naive optimism and creativity, and stir in a passion for the community and making people feel welcomed.”

During the anniversary event customers found a variety of distinctive merchandise that differentiates the store from big box retailers. Offerings mentioned by the shop include novelty desk toys, a Star Trek dress up magnet set, patchwork overalls, Einstein socks, periodic table socks and snarky fridge magnets. The variety serves both local gift needs and the souvenir market that supports downtown foot traffic. Boomerang is located at 1247 A Central Ave and maintains regular hours Monday through Saturday from 10 to 5. Customers can reach the store at 505 662 1479.

For Los Alamos residents the store’s longevity matters both culturally and economically. Independent retailers tend to recycle a higher share of revenue locally through purchases of services and local hiring, which helps retain holiday spending in town rather than leaking to out of area e commerce channels. Small Business Saturday events like the one on November 29 can amplify that effect by concentrating shopper visits when seasonal demand is highest.
Looking ahead, Boomerang’s emphasis on unique products and community ties positions it to capture holiday dollars from both locals and visitors. For residents seeking gifts this season the store presents a local option that supports the downtown retail ecosystem while offering distinct items hard to replicate online.
