Miami man arrested after elevator video shows dog abuse

Surveillance video from an Edgewater condo elevator showed a Miami man with his one-year-old Dutch Shepherd, Buzz, and police later made an arrest in the dog-abuse case.

Local 10 first aired footage that showed the man and the dog in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood on April 5. A later report said a 32-year-old man was arrested after CCTV captured him abusing the dog after it peed in the elevator of the condominium where he lived. NBC 6 South Florida also reported that the man accused of slamming the dog in a luxury Miami condo elevator was arrested.

Florida law gives prosecutors several paths if they decide the conduct meets the statute. Under state law, cruelty to animals is a first-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Aggravated animal cruelty is a third-degree felony, carrying up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
