Three hospitalized after two-boat collision off Bay Harbor Islands

Three people were hospitalized after a two-boat collision off Bay Harbor Islands, in one of Miami-Dade County’s busiest boating corridors. The crash unfolded in Biscayne Bay waters used by recreational boaters, waterfront residents and weekend visitors moving through the surrounding channels.

The collision was serious enough to send all three people to the hospital, though the crash report did not identify how badly they were hurt or what caused the boats to hit. Any investigation will have to sort out where each vessel was traveling and whether speed, visibility, alcohol use or congestion played a role, along with possible violations of channel, lighting or right-of-way rules.

Bay Harbor Islands has seen similar boating emergencies before. On Jan. 28, 2024, NBC 6 South Florida reported that at least one person was airlifted as a trauma alert after a possible boat crash near the island community, and cameras captured authorities, including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, arriving to investigate. That response showed how quickly a routine outing can become a rescue scene in the same narrow waters.

The broader Biscayne Bay corridor has also been the site of a deadly collision. On July 28, 2025, a 60-foot barge being pushed by a tugboat hit a 17-foot Hobie Getaway off Miami Beach’s Hibiscus Island. The sailboat sank after the impact, and Miami Herald later reported that three girls died in the crash.

For Bay Harbor Islands and the surrounding stretch of Miami-Dade shoreline, the latest collision adds to a run of incidents in waters where traffic never really lets up. The channels east of the county’s barrier islands remain crowded, and every crossing, turn and wake carries the risk of another emergency call.
