Jacksonville Memorial Hospital Hosts Mindful Miles Kickoff April 30, Free T-Shirts Offered
Walk 50 miles in May, earn a free T-shirt: Jacksonville Memorial Hospital kicks off the regional Mindful Miles challenge April 30.

Jacksonville Memorial Hospital will host a free community kickoff event April 30 for Mindful Miles, a regionwide walking challenge that rewards anyone who logs 50 or more miles during May with a complimentary T-shirt.
The kickoff runs from 4 to 6 p.m. at the hospital's main entrance, where staff will be on hand to help attendees download and set up the Pacer app, the free smartphone tool used to track walking miles throughout the month-long challenge. Giveaways and program information will also be available at the event.
Claire Peak of Jacksonville Memorial Hospital announced the event through local media, describing the April 30 gathering as an on-site opportunity for residents to get registered and ask questions before May begins. Those who prefer to sign up in advance can do so online through Memorial Health's Pacer invitation page, also accessible via Jacksonville Memorial Hospital's Facebook page.
The challenge runs May 1 through 31. Participants who reach the 50-mile threshold by month's end will qualify for a free Mindful Miles T-shirt distributed through their local Memorial Health hospital. For Morgan County residents, Jacksonville Memorial Hospital serves as that distribution hub.

The Jacksonville event is one of several simultaneous kickoff parties Memorial Health is staging across its regional network, with similar events planned at Decatur, Lincoln, Springfield and other Memorial Health locations.
Memorial Health describes Mindful Miles as a dual-purpose initiative targeting both physical fitness and mental wellness, pointing to research linking regular walking with improvements in mood, energy levels and cardiovascular health. The program is designed with accessibility in mind: participants need only a pair of comfortable shoes and a phone capable of running the Pacer app, a threshold low enough that employers, schools and civic organizations are also being encouraged to adopt it as a group activity.
The 50-mile goal over 31 days works out to roughly 1.6 miles per day, a pace achievable through a single daily 30-minute walk, making the T-shirt well within reach for most participants who start on day one.
