Two men shot at Kalamazoo Girl Scouts center, suspect in custody
Two 25-year-old men were shot at the Girl Scouts center on W. Maple Street, and police said a 22-year-old man was taken into custody.

A heavy police response swept to the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan center on W. Maple Street Sunday evening after two 25-year-old men were shot and a 22-year-old man was taken into custody.
Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the shooting happened shortly before 6 p.m. at the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Kalamazoo Regional Program and Training Center, 601 W. Maple Street, near W. Crosstown Parkway and across from the WWMT station. Dozens of officers, at least one ambulance, a K9 unit, a crime lab vehicle and a drone were seen around the building as investigators searched the area and secured the scene.
Police said the two men who were shot were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. By about 8 p.m., officers said the arrest had been made and the 22-year-old suspect was in custody. Authorities have not released a motive.
Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan said the shooting happened while an outside group was renting the building. No Girl Scouts staff members or members were hurt, and the organization said the building was secure. The center will remain closed until further notice while the police investigation continues.
The shooting was the second in Kalamazoo on Sunday. Police were also investigating an earlier non-fatal shooting on N. Westnedge Avenue near Ada Street, adding to an already active day for public safety crews in the city.
The scene on W. Maple Street sat between Bronson Boulevard and W. Crosstown Parkway, a stretch that drew a dense law enforcement presence as officers worked quickly to lock down the property and gather evidence. For the Girl Scouts center, the immediate danger passed without injuries to staff or members, but the investigation left one of Kalamazoo’s best-known program sites closed and under police scrutiny.
