Woman Killed, Man Injured in Kansas City East Side Backyard Shooting
A woman was shot and killed in a Kansas City East Side backyard just after midnight Thursday; a man wounded in the same incident is expected to survive.

A fatal shooting in the backyard of a Wallace Avenue home killed a woman and sent a man to the hospital in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 9, on Kansas City's East Side, leaving no one in custody as investigators began working the scene.
Kansas City Police Department patrol officers responded just after 12:45 a.m. to the 400 block of Wallace Avenue, near Wilson Road, after a reported shooting was called in. Officers were directed to the backyard of a residence on the block, where they found a woman who had been shot. They began life-saving measures on the scene and requested emergency medical crews.
Kansas City Fire Department medics arrived but pronounced the woman dead at the location. Her identity has not been released.
While officers were still on scene, a man arrived separately at a nearby hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound believed to be tied to the same incident. Police said he is expected to recover.
Investigators determined that an argument involving multiple people preceded the gunfire. No arrests had been made as of early Thursday morning, and no suspect information has been released publicly. Detectives and crime scene personnel were canvassing Wallace Avenue and the surrounding area near Wilson Road, seeking witnesses, surveillance footage, and physical evidence.
The investigation remains active.
