Lane reductions planned on southbound SR-160 near Pahrump for fuel spill repairs
Southbound SR-160 near Pahrump had lane reductions at milepost 14.89 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for fuel spill pavement repairs, likely slowing trips to and from Las Vegas.

Southbound traffic on SR-160 near Pahrump faced lane reductions at milepost 14.89 as crews moved in to repair pavement damaged by a fuel spill. The work was scheduled from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 17, a window that could slow commuters, commercial drivers and anyone making the regular run between Pahrump and the Las Vegas valley.
The Nevada Department of Transportation advised travelers to plan ahead when heading to or from Pahrump. Drivers who could shift trips outside the repair window, especially before 6 a.m. or after 2 p.m., stood to avoid the heaviest disruption as the southbound lanes narrowed for the daytime repair work.
NDOT directed motorists to Nevada 511 for up-to-the-minute road conditions and traffic cameras. The agency also noted that its traveler information is published automatically and cannot be guaranteed for accuracy or timeliness, a reminder that conditions on this stretch can change quickly.
The lane reduction landed on a highway that matters far beyond a single work zone. State Route 160 runs about 70 miles from Las Vegas Boulevard to Roadrunner Road in Pahrump, linking the community to Las Vegas and serving as one of the region’s most important corridors. The affected stretch appears to be part of the Pahrump Valley Highway section of SR-160, where serious crashes and closures have long raised concern for local drivers.
That concern has already shaped state planning. NDOT’s SR 160 and SR 159 corridor study reviewed five-year crash data and existing traffic volumes, then identified safety and capacity as top issues for the route. Public review and comment on the study ran from January 23, 2023, through February 24, 2023.
NDOT has also pointed to more than $100 million in roadway enhancements recently implemented along SR-160 from SR 159 to Pahrump. Those improvements included roadway widening and a new median barrier, part of a broader effort to improve both mobility and safety on a route that remains vulnerable to sudden disruptions like Friday’s repair work.
