The Nye County Democratic Central Committee brought together party fundraising and community giving at its Teddy Bear Tea on Sunday, March 22, blending $30 tickets for the local Democratic Party with a donation drive that sent new stuffed animals to abuse outreach and first responders across the county.

The event ran from 3 to 5 p.m. at Black Cow Coffee House, 1266 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 4, in Pahrump, where attendees gathered for tea, food, and conversation alongside the donation component. Guests were asked to bring a new stuffed animal, not necessarily a bear, sealed inside a gallon-size Ziploc bag. Those donations were directed to No To Abuse, a local outreach group, and to Nye County's first responders.

Ann Underdahl, chair of the Nye County Democratic Party, framed the event as both a political and civic effort. "Our mission is to get Democrats elected," she said, "but one of the other things that we plan to do and hope to do all the time is be aware of what's going on. We want to keep elected officials to their promises, whether they're Republicans or Democrats."

Underdahl was clear that the stuffed animal distributions would cross political lines. "These stuffed animals are not going to just Democrat kids. They're going to go to anyone who needs a little bit of help at a bad time."

On the scale of the gesture, she kept her expectations grounded. "This is something that isn't a big thing, but it could make a difference in somebody's life."

The committee has positioned community involvement as central to its identity in Nye County. "We are looking to do good things here. We are active in our community and people will understand that we don't have to be adverse," Underdahl said.

Ticket proceeds from the event went toward the Nye County Democratic Party's operating efforts. For those who missed the event or want more information about future activities, Underdahl can be reached at 702-292-6174, and Kathleen O'Connor is available at 775-537-7378.
