Nye County seeks election workers countywide, applications due May 1
Applications for Nye County election workers are due at 5 p.m. Friday, May 1. Early voting starts May 23 for a June 9 primary with a broad ballot and same-day registration.

Nye County is looking for election workers countywide, with applications due by 5 p.m. Friday, May 1, as the clerk’s office prepares for a June 9 primary that will run from early voting through canvass. The county posted the recruitment notice April 7 and said workers are needed to help voters, handle check-ins, and keep operations smooth and secure at polling sites.
Applications are available online and in person at the Nye County Clerk’s Offices in Tonopah and Pahrump. The county’s primary schedule shows training in mid-May, early voting from Saturday, May 23, through Friday, June 5, and Election Day on Tuesday, June 9.
The need for workers comes as Nye County prepares to run a large and complicated ballot. Voters will choose among partisan and nonpartisan races that include U.S. Representative, governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, state controller, attorney general, state Senate and Assembly seats, along with county offices, judicial races, school board trustees, township boards and improvement districts. The county also says voters must present valid government-issued photo ID or acceptable proof of residence.
Poll workers are more than greeters. The U.S. Election Assistance Commission says they are critical to successful elections because they help set up polling locations, verify voter registration, issue ballots and explain voting procedures. In Nye County, that work will matter at check-in tables and ballot stations during early voting and on Election Day, when staffing shortages could mean longer waits, slower ballot handling and more pressure on local election officials to keep the process moving.

The county’s calendar also shows how tightly packed the June primary is. April 10 was the last day to opt out of receiving a ballot by mail. May 12 is the close of registration by mail, in person and through the DMV. From May 27 through June 9, voters can register online or at the polls through same-day registration. Mail ballots can be counted through June 16, and the primary will be canvassed for the Board of County Commissioners on June 17.
Nye County entered the 2024 statewide primary with 31,715 registered voters and a turnout rate of 34.11 percent, or 10,818 ballots cast. That kind of participation means even a countywide recruitment push can carry real consequences for line length, ballot processing and public confidence. The county is also promoting the state’s EASE system for disabled, tribal, overseas and military voters as it moves toward another high-stakes primary cycle.
