Pahrump homeschool teens are getting a prom night of their own at Nevada Treasure RV Resort, where a free Great Gatsby-themed celebration on April 25 will offer the kind of formal rite of passage many students only associate with a traditional high school.

The event is open to homeschoolers ages 13 through 18 and is set for 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 301 West Leslie Street. Organizers have asked students to dress formally, and the evening is planned around food, drinks and dancing, all without an admission charge that might keep some families on the sidelines.

Amber Tumbarello, who is organizing the prom, said enthusiasm has been building as the date approaches. “It’s just been thrilling to see the excitement and the encouragement progress the closer it gets,” she said. The Roaring Twenties theme gives the night a particular identity, one that leans into glamour, dress-up and a shared memory for students who may not have a school-sponsored prom to call their own.

That matters in a county where families often build extracurricular traditions from scratch. Nevada collects homeschool information, but does not publicly report participation figures, so the full size of Pahrump’s homeschool community is hard to pin down. Even so, the need for a separate prom suggests a growing network of families looking for social milestones outside the standard public-school calendar.

State law also gives homeschooled students broad, though unfunded, access to public-school classes, sports and extracurricular activities if a parent files a current notice of intent to participate. But access to those programs does not replace every experience, and the recurring effort to stage a homeschool prom shows how families in Nye County are creating their own version of the senior-year sendoff.

Nevada Treasure RV Resort has become a familiar setting for those milestones. Pahrump Valley High School held its junior and senior prom there on April 27, 2024, and Pahrump Moose Lodge #808 previously hosted homeschool prom events, including an Enchanted Forest-themed prom in March 2024 and another homeschool dance in March 2025. In Pahrump, a town of 44,738 people in the 2020 Census, and across Nye County’s 51,591 residents, the pattern points to a small but determined community building its own traditions, one formal dance at a time.
