Two hospitalized after house fire in Camillus

Two people were taken to the hospital after a house fire on Woodmont Drive in Camillus sent heavy flames through a home’s second floor Sunday evening.

Firefighters were called to 204 Woodmont Drive at about 8:40 p.m. on July 5, 2026. CNY911’s incident log placed the response at 8:42 p.m. and listed the fire as a residential blaze in the Town of Camillus near Pinafore Drive and Rhodes Drive. When crews arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the second floor of the home.

The injured people were not identified, and public reporting did not describe how badly they were hurt. It also did not say whether anyone else was inside when the fire started, or whether nearby homes were damaged. Officials have not released a cause for the blaze.

The second-floor fire pattern is especially serious because flames that are already well involved when firefighters reach a house can move quickly into walls, attic space and connected living areas, making rescue and overhaul more difficult. In a neighborhood like this stretch of Camillus, even one home fire can turn into a major disruption for the family inside and for the block around it while crews work the scene and investigators sort out how it began.

The Fairmount Fire Department, which serves the Syracuse area with more than 70 members and six apparatus, is part of the local response network that handles incidents like this one. Onondaga County’s Fire Bureau also coordinates mutual aid and oversees the county Fire Investigation Unit, which typically steps in when the cause of a residential fire is not immediately known.

Camillus has seen other serious house fires in recent months. A fire on Mason Drive in November 2025 left one man dead, and another Camillus home fire was later deemed suspicious. Sunday night’s blaze adds another high-stakes emergency to that list, and the key questions for neighbors now are simple: what sparked the fire, whether the house can be repaired, and how quickly the family can get back on its feet.
