Jurgens leads Fergus Falls girls golf at windy Moorhead invite
Olivia Jurgens shot 94 to pace Fergus Falls at the windy Spud Girls Golf Invite, where the Otters placed fourth with 386 after a calm morning turned tough.

A calm morning at Village Green in Moorhead gave way to a windier afternoon, and Olivia Jurgens still led Fergus Falls with a 94 as the Otters placed fourth in the Spud Girls Golf Invite.
Coach Ben Jurgens said conditions were beautiful early before the wind picked up and made play more difficult later in the day. That mattered on a course like Village Green, where gusts can change club selection, distance control and confidence from one hole to the next, especially this early in the high school season.
Fergus Falls finished with a team score of 386. Detroit Lakes won the meet with a 309, host Moorhead was second at 352 and Brainerd took third at 376. Behind Olivia Jurgens, Shay Katzenmeyer and Hannah Johnson each shot 96, while Ava Thompson finished with a 100.

For the Otters, the result showed both promise and room to tighten up. Olivia Jurgens gave Fergus Falls a dependable low round, and the three scores in the mid-90s kept the team in the mix as the weather worsened. But the final total also showed how quickly a steady start can turn into a tougher number once the wind starts moving flags and pushing shots off line.
The Moorhead meet came one day after Fergus Falls opened its season with another fourth-place finish, this time at Wapicada Golf Club in a Central Lakes Conference event hosted by the St. Cloud Crush. The Otters shot 380 there, with Alexandria winning at 320, followed by Willmar at 351 and Brainerd at 358. The six-stroke rise from 380 to 386 suggests the group is still settling in, but the early results also show a consistent floor: Fergus Falls has opened both meets with a team score in the 380s while facing strong competition.

Village Green is a familiar tournament site in the region. The public 18-hole course opened in 1981, expanded from nine holes to 18 in the spring of 1994 and was remodeled again in 2003. With three sets of tees and a large practice facility, it is built to handle school events like the one Fergus Falls faced Wednesday.
For Fergus Falls, the round offered an early snapshot of where the Otters stand. Olivia Jurgens has already established herself as the top scorer, and if the team can bring the same control from the opening holes to the windier finishing stretch, the Otters should have a chance to build on this start as the season moves deeper into April.
