Pelican Rapids man injured after pickup crashes off Highway 59 in Dunn Township
Thomas Roland Jugovich, 42, was hurt when his southbound pickup left Highway 59 in Dunn Township, hit an embankment and trees, and landed him at a Detroit Lakes hospital.

A Pelican Rapids man was injured Monday morning, April 13, when his pickup left southbound Highway 59 in Dunn Township, struck an embankment and trees, and came to rest off the roadway in Otter Tail County.
Thomas Roland Jugovich, 42, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado at Mile Marker 248 when the one-vehicle crash happened at 10:12, according to the Minnesota State Patrol’s crash update. The State Patrol said the truck was traveling southbound on Highway 59 when it ran off the roadway to the right before hitting the embankment and trees.
Jugovich suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes. The State Patrol listed the incident as an injury crash with one vehicle involved.
The wreck drew attention to a rural stretch of Highway 59 where a driver has little room to recover once a vehicle leaves the pavement. On roads through Dunn Township, a run-off-road crash can turn serious quickly because embankments and trees sit close to the travel lane, leaving a narrow buffer between a minor drift and a hard impact.
For motorists using Highway 59 in this part of Otter Tail County, the crash is a reminder that the southbound corridor can be unforgiving when attention slips or conditions change. Even without another vehicle involved, a single departure from the lane was enough to send a Pelican Rapids driver to the hospital and leave his pickup damaged off the roadway.
