The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced lane closures on I-64 in Dubois, Spencer, and Perry counties set to begin next week. Perry County motorists who regularly travel eastbound on the interstate should expect disruptions near Ferdinand for the better part of two months.

Crews will close the eastbound passing lanes of I-64 near Ferdinand between mile marker 66 and mile marker 68, and the westbound shoulder will also be closed in the same area. Work is scheduled to begin on or around Tuesday, March 31.

The closures will allow for three trenchless pipe installations, and work is expected to last through mid-May, depending on the weather. Trenchless installation allows crews to place pipe beneath the roadway without cutting open the pavement surface, a method that reduces overall disruption to the highway but still requires sustained lane and shoulder restrictions while equipment operates in the work zone.

This is the second round of I-64 pipe work in the region in recent months. An earlier set of closures in the same corridor, affecting the eastbound passing lanes between mile markers 70 and 71 and between 72 and 73, ran from early January through the end of March for pipe installations beneath the roadway at those locations.

The March 31 project expands the scope westward, folding in Dubois County alongside Spencer and Perry, and carries a longer projected timeline. For Perry County drivers who commute toward Jasper or Evansville, the closure window at mile markers 66 to 68 falls in a stretch of I-64 that sees consistent traffic from the Tell City and Cannelton corridor heading north and west.

INDOT officials say drivers should slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. The agency also advises planning for possible delays throughout the construction period, particularly during peak travel hours.

Motorists can check current road conditions and closure details through INDOT's traveler information resources at in.gov/indot.
