Bowdoinham school locks down during burglary search, three detained

An adult and two juveniles were taken into custody Friday after an alleged burglary in Bowdoinham triggered a search that forced Bowdoinham Community School into lockdown. What began as a neighborhood crime call quickly pulled a local elementary school into the middle of the response as officers worked to find the people involved.

The school was locked down because police believed the suspects were still in the area, not because the building itself had been targeted. Two police tracking dogs later led officials into a wooded area behind Bowdoinham Community School, a move that underscored how close the search had come to classrooms, buses and the routines of a small town school day. The lockdown was precautionary and temporary.

WABI said the lockdown lasted for a few hours before it was lifted.
