49ers Earn Three Compensatory Fourth-Round Picks for 2026 NFL Draft
The 49ers landed three compensatory fourth-round picks after losing six free agents in 2025, bringing their 2026 draft haul to seven total selections.

The departures of Charvarius Ward, Dre Greenlaw and Talanoa Hufanga have come back around in a useful way: the NFL awarded the San Francisco 49ers three compensatory fourth-round picks for the 2026 draft, with selections landing at Nos. 133, 138 and 139 overall.
The league made the announcement on March 9, 2026, distributing compensatory picks across the league to teams that suffered net losses of qualifying free agents during the prior league year. The NFL places compensatory selections at the ends of rounds three through seven, and the 49ers' awards all fell in the fourth round.
The math behind the picks traces directly to the 2025 free-agency period. San Francisco lost Aaron Banks, Joshua Dobbs, Dre Greenlaw, Talanoa Hufanga, Jaylon Moore and Charvarius Ward while bringing in only Luke Farrell, Mac Jones and Demarcus Robinson as qualifying additions. That imbalance, six players out against three in, produced the maximum benefit the compensatory formula could deliver to the club.
The three new selections bring the 49ers' total inventory for the 2026 draft to seven picks. Six of those pick numbers are confirmed: No. 27 in the first round, No. 58 in the second round, No. 92 in the third round, and the compensatory trio at Nos. 133, 138 and 139. The seventh pick has not been confirmed in available reporting. As 49erswebzone noted, that total could also shift if San Francisco makes any trades before draft weekend.

The added Day 3 volume gives the 49ers' front office meaningful flexibility heading into the spring. Three picks clustered in the late fourth round represent real roster-building currency, particularly for a team that has used compensatory selections in recent years to develop depth at premium positions. NFL Media analyst Charles Davis, who shifted his first-round projection for San Francisco in a recent mock draft, is among the analysts now factoring the full seven-pick haul into evaluations of the club's draft strategy.
The 2026 NFL Draft is scheduled for late April, giving the organization roughly six weeks to decide how to deploy a draft board that now runs deeper into Day 3 than it did before Monday's announcement.
