Pedestrian Killed, Scooter Rider Hurt in North Beach Collision
A man was killed and a scooter rider hospitalized after a vehicle came to rest on a North Beach sidewalk at Kearny and Broadway late Thursday night.

A male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene and a second man was hospitalized after a vehicle struck both of them near the intersection of Kearny Street and Broadway in North Beach shortly before 11 p.m. on March 5.
San Francisco Police Department officers responded to the area at approximately 10:42 p.m. and found the pedestrian, the scooter rider, and the driver all present at the scene. The pedestrian died at the intersection; the man riding the electric scooter was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, having fallen from his scooter as a result of the collision. The driver, who was uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

According to KRON4, the vehicle, described as a gray SUV or crossover, was reportedly reversing downhill on Kearny when it struck the passing scooter and its rider, as well as the pedestrian on foot. Video posted to the Citizen app appears to show the vehicle not in the roadway but on the concrete steps that form the sidewalk along one side of Kearny, rammed against a building, with the electric scooter lying in the middle of the street.
Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. No arrests or citations have been reported, and no names have been released for any of those involved.
The collision remained under investigation as of this week. Anyone with information is asked to contact SFPD at 415-575-4444, or text a tip to TIP411 beginning the message with "SFPD." Tipsters may remain anonymous.
