Charlestown sets August planning hearing and selectboard meeting dates

Charlestown has placed a Planning Board public hearing on Monday, Aug. 4, 2026, and a Selectboard meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room or via Zoom. For residents tracking what can change how land is used or how town government runs, those are the two August dates most likely to matter.

The Planning Board hearing is the one to watch for questions tied to development, permits and neighborhood conditions. Charlestown’s own Boards and Commissions page lists the Planning Board among the town’s standing boards, and the town’s adopted 2024 Master Plan, approved Oct. 8, 2024, gives that board a broader policy framework for land-use decisions. Even without a detailed agenda posted alongside the hearing notice, the hearing itself is the formal point where residents can hear proposals, see what is being considered and weigh in before the board acts.

The Selectboard meeting the next night carries a different kind of weight. The town’s Boards and Commissions page describes the Selectboard as the town’s chief executive body, with overall responsibility for general town operations. That makes the Aug. 5 meeting the place where budgets, staffing, property questions and day-to-day municipal business can surface, including issues that affect town services directly.

The choice of venue also matters. Charlestown is offering the Selectboard meeting in the Community Room or by Zoom, a format the town had already been using in July 2026 for Selectboard business. That gives more residents a chance to follow the meeting without driving into town, which is especially useful for people balancing work schedules, older residents and anyone living farther from Town Offices.

The town’s News & Events page shows that Charlestown is also using the site as a working bulletin board for basic services. The Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s office was listed as closed Monday, July 27 and Friday, July 31, 2026, with regular hours Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The same page also carried a July 13 to 17 closure for East Street from Park Street to Elm Street, another sign that residents need to check the page before making plans around town business or travel.

The August calendar comes after a March 5, 2026 Selectboard update on ambulance service, when the board said it had worked through recent issues with the provider and that services would continue after March 31, 2026. That history puts added attention on the August meetings, where residents can watch how Charlestown handles the next round of planning and governance decisions.
