Teen Struck by Box Truck on Kilby Road, Expected to Survive
A 13-year-old boy was run over by a box truck on Kilby Road after going back to retrieve his electric motorcycle following a crash near Powderwood Drive.

A 13-year-old boy is expected to survive after a box truck ran over him and his electric motorcycle on Kilby Road near Powderwood Drive in Snyderville late Friday night, in a chain of events that began with a handlebar collision and ended with a well-meaning passerby's spotlight possibly blinding the truck's driver.
Summit County Sheriff Sgt. Skyler Talbot said deputies responded to the intersection of Kilby Road and 2200 West just after 11 p.m. on March 13 after reports of an electric motorcycle crash. Two 13-year-old boys had been riding together near the Powderwood Condos when their handlebars collided, sending both riders down. One boy was injured and landed partially in the travel lane; the other was able to get up and move clear of the roadway.
A passerby driving a truck equipped with a forward-facing spotlight stopped to help. According to the sheriff's office, he activated the spotlight to illuminate the scene, parked, and moved the injured boy out of the road. While that was happening, the second 13-year-old walked back onto Kilby Road to retrieve one of the motorcycles.
That is when a box truck traveling along Kilby Road struck him and the e-motorcycle, running over both. The driver later told investigators that the bright spotlight had blinded their view of the boy and the bike.

The struck boy was transported to a hospital in the Salt Lake area. His family said he is expected to recover from his injuries. The condition of the first boy, who was moved out of the roadway by the passerby, was not detailed in sheriff's office statements.
Sgt. Talbot confirmed that alcohol impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor. All parties are cooperating, and the Summit County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the crash.
