Hagan Fire triggers evacuation notices in Union County

Union County issued evacuation notices at 11:35 a.m. Thursday for parts of the county affected by the Hagan Fire, putting the area south and west of Hwy 204, north of the intersection with USFS 31 Rd, under Level 2. That zone included Spout Springs Rd and Canyon View Lane. A Level 1 notice covered the area east of Hwy 204 and north of USFS 3725 and 3701 Roads.

The county notice came after several days of escalating fire activity just across the line in Umatilla County. On July 19, evacuation levels were upgraded for the Hagan Fire, and by July 22 the fire in the Umatilla National Forest had prompted more Level 3 go now evacuations. The Oregon State Fire Marshal mobilized additional resources, and the state invoked the Emergency Conflagration Act because of the rapid growth and immediate threat posed by the Hagen Fire, the sixth time the act had been used in 2026.

Watch Duty showed the fire as active in the Hagen Creek and Hagar Ridge area, with evacuation statuses at Level 2 Be Set. For people living near the affected roads, the immediate task was to stay packed and ready to move, keep vehicles fueled, and have medications, important papers, pet supplies and livestock transport ready if the notice level rose.

Under Union County’s evacuation map standards, Level 1 means Be Ready for potential evacuation. Level 1 calls for preparation and precautionary movement of people with special needs, mobile property and, under certain circumstances, pets and livestock. Residents should monitor emergency services websites and local media for updates.

Officials lifted all evacuation levels for the Jones Butte Fire near Elgin in July 2023 after it was last mapped at 111 acres and 50% contained. In September 2025, the county also lifted Level 3 go now orders for the Marley Fire. The county’s 2026 Community Wildfire Protection Plan, approved by commissioners, traces back to the version first signed in 2005 and revised in 2017.
